This International Day of Charity (5 September), we’re celebrating our amazing supporters – and inviting you to join them by becoming a Friend of Mersey Cares.

The annual awareness day was established by the United Nations in 2012 to commemorate the legacy of Mother Teresa and promote charitable activities worldwide.

About our NHS Charity

As one of over 220 NHS charities across the UK, we're proud to work alongside the NHS to deliver the very best health and care for everyone. As the dedicated charity of Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust, our focus is on supporting mental health and community services across Cheshire and Merseyside.

We do this by funding projects and initiatives that go beyond what NHS budgets can provide – projects that bring comfort, hope and joy to service users, patients and staff -- people we really care about.

But we can’t do it without your support. By becoming a Friend of Mersey Cares and giving a regular monthly donation, you’ll help us bring these projects to life and ensure we can continue making a difference where it matters most

Why Become a Friend of Mersey Cares?

Your regular support gives us the stability to plan ahead and commit to projects that transform lives. Working closely with our staff and services, we identify the areas where extra help is most needed — so every gift, whether £5 or £50 a month, goes towards projects that we know will make a real difference.

What we have funded Friends of Mersey Cares.png

Thanks to our supporters, here’s what’s already been made possible:

  • St Helens Children In Care Team.jpg Sensory gardens and therapeutic spaces that calm and comfort patients in distress.
  • A monthly Young Onset Dementia support group, offering connection and joy through quizzes, memory games, and friendship.
  •  Christmas gifts to show children and young people they are valued and cared for.
  •  A short film and suicide prevention training, equipping people with the confidence to talk to someone in crisis.
  • Books, worry bears, and comfort kits for children navigating emotional struggles.
  • A dementia-friendly library and specialist fidget items (including dementia dolls, day/night clocks, and handheld fidgets) to support people living with later-life and dementia conditions.
  • Art projects and cultural celebrations that bring people together and promote inclusivity.

Your donation, no matter the size, creates real impact:

  • £5 a month could provide a book to support a looked-after child with their emotions.
  • £20 a month could give a carer access to wellness support activities.
  • £50 a month could fund a monthly Young Onset Dementia support group.
  • £100 a month could help thousands of people access free, lifesaving suicide awareness training.
