Resources to support therapy for children and young people

Therapeutic support for comfort and emotional regulation

Fidget Toys to Support Therapy for ChildremTherapeutic support for comfort and emotional regulation

Working alongside Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services (CYPMHS) in St Helens, we funded a range of sensory-friendly resources such as fidget toys, textured fabrics, and ambient lighting to make therapy rooms more welcoming and supportive for children and young people accessing therapy. The items give children something to support them in regulating their emotions during therapy, and can help tp improve concentration.

Senior Support Worker for the Children and Young People's Mental Health Service (CYPMHS) in St Helens, Claire Kenny, said:

"Giving children something to  fidget with during therapy sessions can improve  concentration and make it easier for them to respond to questions.  The resources help them self soothe and stay engaged, enabling therapists to hear their voices more clearly.

"Sensory items can also support them to remain in the session for the full duration."
