Many people across our communities are supporting loved ones alongside work, family and other commitments. Balancing caring responsibilities can be incredibly challenging, tiring and emotionally demanding.

During Carer’s Week, we want to celebrate the incredible dedication, compassion, and strength of unpaid carers.

We’d also like to tell you some more about how we’ve been supporting our Carer Engagement Team and their work with carers across our communities - all made possible thanks to the incredible support of our fundraisers and donors.

Alongside its work at Carer Centres Carer Centres across the region, the Carer Engagement Team also runs regular 'Carers Cafés' at venues throughout Cheshire and Merseyside. These cafés give unpaid carers the opportunity to connect with others sharing similar experiences, take valuable time for themselves, and access helpful information and advice to support them in their caring role.

At cafe sessions, attendees can take part in a range of therapeutic and creative arts and crafts activities which we have been delighted to fund. These include crystal art, glass painting, mindfulness colouring, memory box decorating and card making.

This support helps carers to unwind and relax in a safe, welcoming and supportive environment, while engaging in activities designed to improve wellbeing. Feedback gathered over recent months highlights that taking part in arts and crafts has a meaningful impact, helping to reduce stress and improve mental wellbeing for those attending.

Other ways we’ve supported carers

In December 2025, The Carer Engagement team held a Christmas celebration event at the Florrie, attended by 85 unpaid carers.

The team shared:

“With the help of our charity team, the team were able to secure 100 selection boxes from Tesco which we were able to hand out to carers on the day. This was a really lovely touch to an already great day, and carers were very appreciative of this. We also had enough to provide carers who attended our Christmas Carers Café sessions with one too!”

Mersey Cares is also delighted to be supporting preparations for an upcoming Young Carers Celebration event in August 2026. Thanks to the generous support of Tesco, a £100 donation has been made to fund resources for the event, including the creation of wellbeing packs for young carers. These packs will include thoughtful items such as hot chocolate sachets, toiletries, stress balls, pens, activity packs to help promote comfort and wellbeing.

Can you support us to do more like this?

Kind donations from our supporters and fundraisers enable us to do a range of things like this across Cheshire and Merseyside. Your kindness enables us to provide opportunities for connection and support across the region and these seemingly small things can make a huge amount of difference. You can support us in a number of ways such as making a one-off donation, by becoming a Friend of Mersey Cares with a regular donation, or by taking part in a Mersey Cares Fundraising Event. Every penny makes a huge difference -- and we are so grateful for any support you can give.
