How we're helping shape menopause support in the workplace

6 November 2026

World Menopause Day EventIn October, we were invited to attend the Mersey Care World Menopause Day event for staff, continuing our ongoing involvement with the award-nominated, ‘Pause for Thought’ campaign. It was a great opportunity to talk to staff and share more information about the work we do to support staff wellbeing initiatives across the Trust.

With around one in 10 women leaving the workforce because of the impact of menopause, and one in four experiencing severe daily symptoms, creating a supportive workplace culture has never been more important.

Hosted by the Trust's Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service (OHWS), the event welcomed menopause advocates and colleagues from across Mersey Care for a day of learning, connection and conversation around a life stage that affects millions of women. Marking this year's World Menopause Day theme, "Chronic Pain at Midlife", attendees gained practical advice, new insights and greater confidence to navigate menopause, exploring topics such as symptom management, accessing support and the benefits of movement and mindfulness. Menopause Champion Training also provided valuable opportunities for colleagues to share experiences, strengthen peer support and help foster a more understanding and inclusive workplace culture.

The Pause for Thought Campaign

Thanks to support from NHS Charities Together we have been able to fund various elements of the Trust’s 'Pause for Thought' campaign.

  • The 'Pause for Thought' Roadshow and Wellbeing Lounge: Bringing resources directly to staff in partnership with the Project Wingman wellbeing lounge.
  • Sanitary Box Funding: Distributing essential hygiene and sanitary boxes to staff members across various Trust sites.
  • Education and Training: We supported the delivery of seminars and training sessions designed for both managers and staff.
  • Inclusive Men’s Sessions: Hosting dedicated sessions specifically for men, empowering them with the knowledge to support their colleagues at work and their families at home.

Achieving national recognition

We are so proud that the 'Pause for Thought' campaign found itself in the national spotlight, earning shortlists in three major categories at the prestigious Menopause Friendly Employer Awards (Most Open Culture, Best Engagement Approach, and Best Trained Workforce).

Speaking about the campaign and the Trust's support for menopause in the workplace, Katie Derrick said:

"Change can come with conversation. Women need to know they are safe to speak boldly about menopause and the people around them need to have the confidence to ask what support they need."

By encouraging open conversations, raising awareness and championing inclusive support, we can help create a workplace where everyone feels understood, supported and empowered. This event is just one example of our ongoing commitment to supporting the wellbeing of colleagues and helping to foster a culture where people can thrive at every stage of life.
