International Nurses' Day is celebrated every year on 12 May – the birthday of Florence Nightingale – as a moment to recognise and honour the vital role of nurses around the globe.

Each year brings a new theme, and this year's is "Caring for Nurses Strengthens Economies" – highlighting how investing in the physical and mental wellbeing of nurses is key to building strong and sustainable healthcare systems.

One of our core objectives as a charity is to support the wellbeing of our staff who work tirelessly to take care of patients and service users across Merseyside and Cheshire.  We’re proud to fund a range of initiatives including:

Wellbeing on Wheels

Wellbeing Through Wildlife

‘Pause for Thought’ – our award-nominated workplace menopause campaign

And there are many more in the pipeline!

'Step into Summer' to support staff wellbeing

This month, as part of our staff Step into Summer fundraiser during National Walking Month, our teams of doctors, nurses, support staff, finance and others across Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust are stepping up for a good cause – with a day out at Knowsley Safari Park to experience our Wellbeing Through Wildlife initiative up for grabs for the team with the most steps! Thanks to the support and kindness of local businesses we're also able to offer additional prizes for our weekly winners including hampers full of delicious local goods thanks to Mersey Hampers, Junkyard Golf tickets, Tea and Cake at Bents Garden Centre and a tour of the iconic Liver Building.

Over 200 colleagues have already signed up to the challenge which is in partnership with our Occupational Health and Wellbeing Service and NHS Northwest Games  – all raising funds to support each other through our Workplace Wellbeing Fund.

Celebrating our nurses on International Nurses' Day - and beyond

Admiral Nurse Team - Boooks and Scrapbooks.jpgOn International Nurses' Day we want to celebrate and give thanks to the incredible nurses who work across our mental health and community services.

Through our charity’s work, we are proud to fund projects that support these dedicated professionals to care for others and offer support beyond the scope of what the NHS can typically provide, whether that be through welcome packs for children in care arriving at our services, resources to support dementia patients or support groups to support patient wellbeing.

We’re especially grateful for how engaged our nurses are with the charity, always thinking about how we can work together to improve the lives of the patients they serve.

We're all so lucky to be in such good hands.
