Mersey Cares' Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge - 2025!
25 June 2025
Congratulations to our Yorkshire Three Peaks Challengers who walked 24.5 miles to raise funds to support Mersey Care services
Congratulations to our Yorkshire Three Peaks Challengers!
We are incredibly proud to congratulate all the amazing staff who took part in this year’s Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in support of Mersey Cares. Now in its second year, the challenge brought together a group of determined walkers ready to take on one of the UK’s most iconic and demanding routes — all while raising an impressive £1,570 for our charity.
Taking part this year was Nismen Lathif and Scott Bridge from the Early Intervention Team, also Alex Rowan, Indiana M-Green, Annabel Wright, Sue Ryan, Lynne Ryan, Nicola Whitby, Jennifer Davis and Dave Murphy.
The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge covers a demanding 24-mile route, tackling the summits of Pen-y-Ghent (694m), Whernside (736m), and Ingleborough (723m) in under 12 hours. Known for its rugged terrain, steep ascents, rocky paths, and boggy stretches, the route is a serious test of endurance and teamwork, even in good weather.
Heavy rain made the challenge even more demanding
This year, the conditions were particularly wet and challenging, with driving rain and slippery trails adding an extra layer of difficulty to an already challenging task. But our colleagues rose to the occasion with resilience, camaraderie, and plenty of smiles (even if these were tested to the limits at times!).
A huge thank you goes to the expert team at Overlimits, who were our mountain guides for the second year running. Their support was invaluable, guiding walkers safely through tough terrain and offering encouragement at every peak and pit stop. Phil Lee who led the hike said, "It was, without doubt, a tough day for your supporters due to the heavy rain and cold, although not as bad as it could have been with the winds bringing slightly warmer weather from the south. They all did incredibly well!"
Thank you to all who donated
We’re also incredibly grateful to everyone who donated to support the challenge. Every pound raised will go towards funding Mersey Cares projects that go above and beyond standard NHS funding — helping to support mental health, wellbeing, and community initiatives that make a real difference to patients and staff.
Scott Bridge, Senior Nurse Practitioner and part of the Early Intervention team - Halton and Warrington, took on the challenge to raise funds for his service, as part of his team’s ongoing commitment to fundraising for Mersey Cares.
Speaking ahead of the event he said on his Enthuse fundraising page:
“I have been lucky to work in such an amazing team for the past 6 years with inspiring practitioners working with some of the most vulnerable people in society.
“The team has always tried to give to those in need by completing food bank collections throughout the year and more so at holiday seasons. Recently some of our team have started to do more personal fundraising via the Trust.
“I have always wanted to do something to raise money and when my colleague suggested we complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge I jumped at the chance as I have a keen interest in pushing myself to achieve such a challenge and hopefully get some amazing views in the process."
Scott also saw the challenge as a way to improve his own health and wellbeing, which is a major personal benefit of taking on a Mersey Cares fundraiser.
"I have previously climbed Snowdon with nursing students whilst at University, but haven’t undertaken any serious walks for the past 10 years," he said. " I am hoping this will be something which will help motivate myself to improve my health and wellbeing and hopefully complete more challenges each year.”
Charity lead, Joanne Watson said,
"An incredible completion from all who took part, especially considering the added challenge of the less than ideal weather. Thank you so much to all of our amazing challengers - your support will enable us to bring to life projects across our mental health and community services to benefit service users, patients and the staff who give so much."
If you'd like to support the incredible achievement of our 2025 challengers, you can do so with a donation via their Yorkshire Three Peaks fundraising page. Any amount, big or small will help us do more to support people across Cheshire and Merseyside.
