Healthy eating courses supporting recovery, confidence and wellbeing
We funded a series of healthy eating courses for the Early Intervention in Psychosis Team at Brighter Living in Southport — and the impact has been remarkable.
The programme didn’t just teach people how to cook. It helped promote social inclusion, improve wellbeing, and build real confidence for service users taking steps in their recovery.
In a friendly, hands-on environment, participants learned how to prepare nutritious, affordable meals, building practical skills they can rely on long after the sessions end. But the benefits reached far beyond the kitchen.

Alongside improved eating habits, the sessions created a safe and supportive space where people could connect, grow, and be seen.
The team shared how powerful the experience has been:
“A primary goal of the healthy eating course was to promote social inclusion, which it has absolutely done. The sessions have given our team the opportunity to observe how service users present in an alternative setting, which informs our treatment plans.
The social interaction has had a positive impact on wellbeing and has given service users increased self-confidence in their practical abilities.”
This project shows how practical, community-based activities can play a vital role in supporting mental health, building resilience, and helping people move forward with confidence.
